AVATAR2 trial- recruitment complete
We have successfully completed the trial, having recruited to our target of 345 people. We are currently writing up and look forward to sharing what we have found soon.
AVATAR2 PPI Group Shortlisted for an Award
The AVATAR2 Patient & Public Involvement Group were delighted to be shortlisted in the Participatory Research (National) category at the inaugural Kings Engaged Researcher Awards. The awards celebrate excellence in public and community engagement research, recognising King's staff and community partners for their achievements. Nick, Sarah, Amy, Tom and Olly attended the award ceremony on the 16th January on behalf of the wider team (based in London, Glasgow and Manchester), and we are pleased to share a photo from the event. Congratulations to the RE-STAR Youth Researcher Panel who won the award for our category, a brilliant example of PPI work that it was great to see being recognised. The event was a joyful and inspiring one to attend, and the team look forward to supporting it in the future.
AVATAR2 Trial Recruits to Target and on Time
The AVATAR2 team are delighted to announce we have completed the recruitment of all the participants for the AVATAR2 trial, meeting our target of 345 on time. We will continue to meet the participants in the trial for their follow-up assessments but will be closed to new referrals. This is a huge milestone and we owe our successful recruitment to many people, not least the busy clinicians who referred people to the trial and those who have taken part. One of our Research Assistants, Rupa Patel, has reflected on her experience of recruitment coming to an end in the blog post added to the website . We would like to extend our sincere thanks to everyone that has supported us and wish you a happy festive period. We will share a newsletter update about AVATAR2 in the New Year.
AVATAR2 mentioned in parliament
The AVATAR2 team was delighted this week to find that the trial has made it to the House of Commons! We would like to say a huge thank you to all our supporters in parliament, in particular our wonderful AVATAR2 Launch guest speaker Dr Lisa Cameron, MP for East Kilbride, Strathaven and Lesmahagow who sponsored this Early Days Motion:
“That this House recognises that mental health treatment and support has never been more important; acknowledges AVATAR therapy as a new approach to working with people experiencing distressing auditory hallucinations; notes the success of the first trial in South London and the launch of the new multi-site trial of AVATAR2 at Glasgow University, Manchester University, University College London and Kings College London supported by the Wellcome Trust, under the esteemed leadership of Professors Philippa Garety, Tom Craig, Andrew Gumley, Hamish McLeod, Sandra Bucci, Gillian Haddock and Dr. Miriam Fornells-Ambrojo; and welcomes that digital approaches will increase access to psychological interventions for people who require mental health treatment, particularly during the covid19 outbreak.”
